Powder Or Liquid Collagen: Which is More Effective?

Collagen products are believed to improve our skin's elasticity, thin lines, wrinkles and prevent signs of aging. With so many products on the market, it can seem a daunting task to figure out which one is worth it. We’ve spoken before about what liquid collagen is used for, but if you’re new to the collagen world, you may also be seeing the powder variety of collagen supplements being sold. In this article, we will be talking about the main differences between these two products and which one is considered more effective.

What is The Difference Between Liquid and Powder Collagen?

Collagen makes up one third of our body's natural proteins and is vital when it comes to our skin, cartilage, bones and connective tissue. Typically, collagen supplements are made from animals or fish, using their connective tissue. The use of collagen in daily skincare and makeup regimes has risen in popularity over the years, finding commonplace in many households.

Powdered collagen has the consistency of most typical protein powders and it’s fairly simple to use. Most powder collagen products are safe to use in both cold and hot drinks as they are usually made with hydrolyzed collagen. The amino acids are broken down in these products into much smaller pieces which are named peptides. This means it can be dissolved into your morning coffee, cup of tea or even into your healthy protein smoothie.

Liquid collagen, as the name suggests, is the same product but in liquid form. With a liquid collagen, it is understood that the dosage is simpler as the liquid suspends the collagen right through the liquid. With powder supplements, the heavier collagen particles may drop to the bottom of a drink. Liquid collagen is believed to help improve skin elasticity and muscle mass. Many people begin to take collagen to supplement their natural production and prevent signs of aging.

Which One is More Effective?

But which one is more effective, liquid or powder collagen? With there being a plethora of collagen products currently on the market, there can be much debate over which one has the best benefits, which one is most effective and which one is worth the money.

One of the main disadvantages that comes with taking powder collagen over liquid, is that these products rarely contain the same amount of additional assets that liquid collagen has. For example, Revive Collagen Enhanced Plus contains Retinol, Hydrolysed Keratin and Vitamins B6, B12, C and D, which makes adding it to your regime all that more beneficial. With powdered collagen, you won’t get that all important vitamin C, which boosts your natural ability to produce collagen. Studies have shown that taking vitamin C alongside your collagen supplements makes them work both better and faster, so without this additional benefit already in your collagen product, you might have to take it alongside or even adapt your diet slightly to include more foods which are rich with this vitamin.

Talking of other benefits that come with taking a liquid collagen supplement, with the additions of Retinol, Vitamins B6, B12, C, D and of course, Hydrolysed Keratin, you are bound to see some positive changes in both your hair and nails. Our hair loses Keratin for many reasons, including the sunlight, pollution, harsh hair treatment or general environmental aggressors. When taking powder collagen, you may miss out on these additional benefits, as they aren’t typically included in these products.

Other Differences Between Liquid And Powdered Collagen

Another way that makes liquid collagen different from the powder variety is the taste. If you are consuming something regularly and even, as we recommend, daily, then you are going to want it to taste nice! With a similar texture to protein powder, collagen powder can be described as ‘chalky’ and doesn’t taste great unless mixed into a drink. Whereas liquid collagen such as Revive Liquid Collagen, has a more distinct and enjoyable taste. Jackie W says ‘This really works. I have just started my new 10,000 mg sachets and love the new flavour. I have been using the original now for about 4 months. It’s made a noticeable difference to my skin and my joint aches. Love it. Highly recommended’. Revive Collagen has a fresh lemon and lime flavour and Revive Collagen Enhanced Plus range has a tropical taste which makes taking your collagen supplement each morning enjoyable and something to look forward to.

Finally but some might say most importantly, it’s easier to take liquid collagen on the go. Powder collagen typically has to be mixed into a liquid so requires preparation and time. With liquid collagen, it fits the busier lifestyle that so many of us have. Each one of our Revive Collagen products comes with 14 ready-to-drink sachets, which you can take on the go; in the car; at your desk; before lunch or whenever suits!
